Retail Store Manager

Prince Ink | Downtown Norfolk, VA Full-time | $55,000–$65,000/year, depending on experience | Immediate opening

Prince Ink is opening a retail store in downtown Norfolk, and we're looking for someone who wants to help build something special.

The store pairs our own line of Prince Ink apparel with a curated shop of games, books, records, vintage finds and more. A place where customers discover something pleasant, clever, or unexpected at every turn, and shopping feels like an experience rather than a transaction.

The space is built out and ready; with a few surprises still on the way. We're hiring the person who will lead the retail team. You'll help us hire and shape everything from here.

This is not a role for someone who wants to inherit a finished playbook. We want someone who sees what needs to happen, brings ideas to the table, and helps us build it.

What You'll Do

Getting the store open

• Help get the store fully merchandised, staffed, and ready for customers

• Help establish retail systems, standards, and day-to-day operating routines

Running it day to day

• Own daily store operations and customer experience

• Hire, train, schedule, and lead a small retail team

• Keep merchandising and displays fresh and engaging

• Provide a weekly overview of sales, inventory, staffing, opportunities, and priorities, with your own read on what the numbers mean and what we should do next

• Grow store sales and identify opportunities to grow performance

Growing the store

• Monitor inventory, sell-through, product performance, and store trends

• Help source and evaluate new products and vendors

• Recommend buying decisions, with increasing autonomy over the assortment as you learn the store and our point of view

• Develop events, promotions, collaborations, and other reasons for people to visit

You'll report directly to ownership and have real, direct influence over the products we carry, the people we hire, the events we create, and the experience customers have.

Who We're Looking For

You may already be a Store Manager, or you may be a strong Assistant or Associate Manager ready to run a store of your own.

We're looking for someone who:

• Has meaningful retail experience, including leadership responsibility

• Takes initiative and is comfortable figuring things out

• Communicates openly, clearly, and frequently

• Enjoys working through ideas together and values open, honest feedback

• Has strong merchandising and product judgment

• Understands sales, inventory, and store performance

• Enjoys leading and developing people

• Is energetic, hands-on, and comfortable working the floor

• Gets excited about creating memorable customer experiences

• Wants real autonomy rather than simply another retail job

Experience with a strong specialty, lifestyle, apparel, gift, home, design-focused, or independent retailer is especially valuable. Buying experience is helpful but not required. We're more interested in someone with good judgment who can learn our point of view.

Schedule & Benefits

This is a full-time, hands-on retail leadership position. Weekend availability and occasional evening/event coverage are required, with a five-day workweek based on the needs of the store.
