African Mask Plant

Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Keep the plant out of harsh, direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate foliage.

Watering: Water thoroughly when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry. They like evenly moist soil, but they are highly susceptible to root rot, so ensure your pot drains perfectly and never let the plant sit in standing water.

Humidity & Temp: As a tropical native, the African Mask loves high humidity (60% or higher). Keep them in temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and away from cold drafts.

Dormancy: Do not panic if your plant goes dormant in the fall or winter. Growth may slow, or the leaves may die back entirely. Reduce watering during this time and wait for it to bounce back in the spring.

Toxicity: The African Mask contains calcium oxalate crystals, which make it toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. Keep it out of reach of curious pets and small children.

Difficulty: While beautiful, Alocasias can be a bit finicky for beginners. They are best suited for areas like bright bathrooms or placed on a pebble tray with a humidifier to maintain the needed tropical atmosphere.
