Chiyogami Sheet (Pink Parasols) Details
Chiyogami is a traditional Japanese decorative paper, celebrated for its rich color and intricate pattern. Each sheet is produced in Japan using a meticulous silkscreen process, where every color in the design is applied by hand through a separate screen. This careful layering—sometimes using a dozen or more colors, including luminous metallics—creates the depth and vibrancy that make chiyogami so distinctive.
Because these papers are sourced from different studios in Japan, overall sheet sizes may vary slightly, but each features a consistent patterned area measuring 24 × 36 inches, framed by an unprinted margin.
Both beautiful and versatile, chiyogami is ideal for gift wrapping, collage, and scrapbooking, as well as bookbinding projects or covering small decorative boxes. Its durability and striking designs make it equally suited for everyday crafting or more refined, heirloom-quality work.
Note: the images display a portion of the overall pattern of each sheet, roughly US Letter size (8½ × 11 inches).

Based in Toronto, Ontario, the Japanese Paper Place was founded in 1980 by Nancy Jacobi, who had taught in Japan for several years. For more than forty years, Nancy shared her passion for the traditions of Japanese craft with artists and book-binders. She retired in 2021, transferring the business to her step-daughter, Tara Moore-Jones.
At Prince Ink, we are proud to offer selections of finely decorated silk-screened paper from Japan, where they have been made using the same techniques for hundreds of years.
